Semiconductor is an important industry in Taiwan. This makes education and research in semiconductor particularly important. Since the late 1960’s, National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) has been a leader in semiconductor technology research and education making outstanding contributions to Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. This interdisciplinary Center continues that tradition and provides a platform for interested NCTU professors in semiconductor, electronics, materials, chemistry and physics to work together on solving some bottleneck issues of semiconductor technology. Examples include low temperature process technology for producing silicon monolithically stacked devices and circuits, negative-capacitance transistor technology for breaking the 60mV/decade barrier to voltage and power reduction, 2D transitional-metal dichalcogenides material growth and devices for 3D monolithic ICs, low-resistance interconnects and contacts, and III-V semiconductor FinFETs for high-speed and high-frequency applications. This Center is a part of the NCTU International College of Semiconductor Technology, which strives to attract talents and train future leaders in breakthrough semiconductor technology research.
